Crib mattresses with organic cotton or how to protect your baby’s health while preserving the environment.

In these days, when new materials, technology, and innovation are the order of the day, more and more people are returning to the natural, to the original. Natural mattresses are also in increasing demand. Normally made of ecological materials, there are options for babies, children, and adults.

Newborns and small babies spend most of their day sleeping. Taking care of the environment in which they sleep and the resting aids are extremely vital.

What is organic cotton?

This type of cotton is grown without the use of chemical additives or pesticides and is not subject to any genetic manipulation. This is the healthiest option in this type of tissue since pesticides and chemicals used in other types of cotton can reach the body of the toddler through the skin.

The best option is undoubtedly natural organic cotton, i.e. unbleached. Bleaching involves exposing cotton to chemicals.

Cotton is also a very hygienic, breathable material with a great capacity to regulate temperature and humidity.

What are the advantages of an organic cotton crib mattress?

Organic cotton is a fresh material in contact with the skin and very breathable. That is why it’s always best to wear cotton clothes in summer. So if we add this material to the cot mattress, we make it a little cooler and more breathable.

As it is an organic product, no pesticides or herbicides are used for its growing. What does this mean? Because none of these substances harmful to health are found in the manufacture of crib mattresses that have been made with organic cotton, avoiding, for example, the occurrence of allergies.

Organic cotton is much softer on contact with the skin than traditional cotton. Traditional cotton is subjected to processes that break the fibers more and wear them, the fabric ends up suffering. Organic cotton does not go through processes that break its fibers and harden them, so we have better quality material.

Your little one’s skin is very sensitive, it is adapting to the world around her with all its textures and substances. Since her skin is so sensitive and organic cotton is a respectful and delicate material with the skin, this fabric is the right one.

What is an organic mattress made of?

Organic mattresses are usually made of non-organic latex foam as a support layer, covered with organic wool so that it softens and wrapped in organic cotton.

Comfort is not a prominent feature of organic mattresses. They are usually very firm and that’s why they usually bring a foam with natural memory.

What are the environmental benefits of buying organic cotton crib mattresses?

Conventional cotton uses more insecticides than any other crop. 25% of the insecticides and 10% of the pesticides used in the world are in this type of crops.

The chemical components used in these plantations harm the health of the workers. According to the World Health Organization, some 20,000 deaths occur each year from pesticide poisoning. In the US, for example, more than 10,000 farmers die each year from cancer whose symptoms are related to the chemicals they have to work with.

Chemicals don’t just stay in cotton, they end up in our lands, aquifers, rivers… so we pollute our own planet. With this, we put at risk the diversity of each area.

So, when we have products made from organic cotton, for example, we are not only helping to improve our quality of life, our well-being and to achieve healthier rest, but we are also helping the environment by encouraging natural rest.

It is our responsibility to make this world a little more sustainable and preserve it for future generations. One way is to ask if your crib mattress contains organic materials and if your manufacturing process had a minimal environmental impact.

I like it when you said that organic beddings are good for babies since they are very hygienic and have breathable material with a great capacity to regulate temperature and humidity. I’m planning to buy baby kinds of stuff next month before I give birth to my firstborn. I think I need to go to the mall section which has a lot of organic linens and buy a lot for my little one.
